"You should not have any special fondness for a particular weapon, or anything else, for that matter. Too much is the same as not enough. Without imitating anyone else, you should have as much weaponry as suits you." — Miyamoto Musashi (The Book of Five Rings)
"The primary thing when you take a sword in your hands is your intention to cut the enemy, whatever the means. Whenever you parry, hit, spring, strike or touch the enemy's cutting sword, you must cut the enemy in the same movement. It is essential to attain this. If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him." — Miyamoto Musashi (The Book of Five Rings)

Quote: "Nous sommes touts Sauvages." ("We are all savages.")
Story: I am taking a class on Native American history to 1776, specifically, regarding this quote, the time of the French trappers in the pays d'en haut territory around the Great Lakes area. The renegade trappers, known as the coureurs de bois (men of the woods) that were outside the conge's system (or licensed trappers) were a great fear to the French authorities. They truly thought they were metamorphosing into "savages," or Native Americans- as the ignorant vernacular of the day went. Of course, the French trappers totally misunderstood the Native American system as one "without rules." Anyway, the trappers who frequented La Salle's fort destroyed it when he was gone, stealing everything, and leaving the above quotation tacked to the door. :D
We are not humans having occasional spiritual experiences, we are spirits having occasional human experiences.

Nice quote RJ!
These are some of the things I used to hear a lot from my parents, grandparents etc as a kid. Of course they were all "country people" born and bred.

hehe, those are great guys!
Here's a funny one my father says over and over. "Never employ a man who wears baggy pants".
Evidently the "old wisdom" was that you can't do an honest day's work if your clothes don't fit properly, hence a man in baggy pants was someone "not used to working".
Oh and years ago if a man got a woman pregnant and they were unmarried they'd say "his foot slipped on the doorstep", That was "code" for "she's pregnant and they ain't married", but they soon will be!
Of course after the rushed wedding the child was then "premature".
There were a lot of premature babies back then................
Shall I not see that to live is to have relinquished
beauty to the sequestration of the dark,
and yet that the spirit of man, benighted, vanquished,
has folded wings, and shall use them as the lark
into the sun beyond the cold clouds flinging
her desperate hope, not reaching where she has striven
but soaring forever beyond herself, and singing
high above earth as she is low in heaven?
Shall I not confess that mine own evil humour
and not man’s failure forged this black despair,
and, while I wept, high up the golden rumour
of the lark ascending fringed the quiet air?

The Old Knight
His golden locks time to silver turned;
O time too swift, O swiftness never ceasing;
His youth 'gainst time and age hath ever spurned,
But spurned in vain; youth waneth by increasing;
Beauty, strength, youth, are flowers but fading seen;
Duty, faith, love are roots, and ever green.
His helmet now shall make a hive for bees;
And, lovers' sonnets turned to holy psalms,
A man-at-arms must now serve on his knees,
And feed on prayers, which are age's alms;
But though from court to cottage he depart,
His saint is sure of his unspotted heart.
And when he saddest sits in homely cell,
He'll teach his swains this carol for a song;
"Blest be the hearts that wish my sovereign well,
Curst be the souls that think her any wrong."
Goddess, allow this aged man his right,
To be your beadsman now, that was your knight.

As kids, when we were acting a bit to smart for our boots, Dad would say, "You could do wonders with a box of eggs and a stick." I still don't get it.
Other than that, the old classics-
"Ask yourself, do you feel lucky"
"I'll be back"
"Hasta la vista, baby"
Hmm, I don't get the eggs and stick one either, ab.
I thought of a funny one tonight I hadn't remembered for a while. My father was making a heck of a mess in the kitchen and he was driving me nuts (or more nuts).
I remember how my mother, grandmother, aunts, great aunts etc always used to say, "Never let a man in your kitchen!".
Funny.. I feel the same way about women in my kitchen!
