I've looked into getting the full book but it seems to be thoroughly out of print.  I'll call the publisher on Monday, I want this!

Hat tip to whoever posted this website the other day, it's really chock full of interesting reading.

that took a long time to read teh entire thing,
I am not sure that any of that helps us much,
other than maybe move from the coasts, but I think we already knew that one.

but still a fascinating read

I take oxygen out of the soil. It's good work. I gather up, and dig tunnels, and take all the material back to a smelter.

That must be some "smelter."

Stinks. 'S all kind of pollution and shit. Their air there is worse 'n here. It's compressed here. That's why I like it up at L5 better. The air's cleaner. But even there they say that it's, down on the world, it's really bad.

There's still fallout, lot o' radiation an' stuff.

Everything broke down. The only thing left was the World Bank. They had to control everything. And some kind of--just the--the United Council took over. They were the only people who had computers left. And so it's--the way we look at it now is that power just naturally fluxed to them. They had information. Information is power, information is control.

Well, one can readily see why the "World Bank" would want to control the earth....

aaw: Do they have--robots? ep: Sort of. We use--. aaw: Not humanoid. ep: No, uhn-uh. That's silly. (Laughs.) aaw: Is it? ep: Yeah. Doesn't work.

Really?

Okay sorry, but, I'm calling BS on this one.  I've mentioned before that they are about a tinkling of a degree away from seriously discussing robot rights because they are very nearly close to being sentient beings.

This story isn't anything any different that what Clark or any other science-fiction writer has written.  Science-FICTION.  Meaning: absolutely no one knows what the future is going to be.

But, again, it's a good fear inducer.....

Laws. Well, I dunno. These are like archaic terms or something.

And yet he readily understood what "jewelry" meant.

Oh, I see. Like the doo-dads. I guess so. I don't think you got it quite right up here. That stuff don't matter. There's no wanting, so if you have everything you want, what do you want extra stuff for? Oh--I guess that's not fair, 'cause I covet my books.

And, yet, not a page earlier he explained how important "stuff" was.

And I was wondering when he'd get to this:

And we know all that took place only over about two hundred fifty years or so. That's pretty damn quick.

Looks like we can settle in then, 'cause TEOTWAWKI isn't going to happen for quite some time.

Well, after the earthquakes a lot of the coastal places got whacked out pretty good. It seems like they used to build all their big cities right on the coast. Seems kinda dumb now. And the water got 'em.

I thought it was nukes.....

A couple of the comments are interesting.  Thinking along the same lines as I.

Dear Sir, I haven't read the book but there seems to be a flaw in the logic. It is stated that worlders can't stay on the space platform or the moon indefinitely because various physical degenerations take place that eventually kill them. If that is the case, how did ep's ancestors survive for multiple generations? And if they found a way to survive, why could it not be applied to worlders they were transporting up currently ? Why would they all have brown skin and black hair if the space stations were a world-wide effort ? Sincerely,
Joel Kreger

No offense, SF.  I didn't mean to say all this in that way.  I have an inclination to dissect stories.  I do it for my work now, and I do it all the time when I read these kinds of stories.

I want to figure out if there are inconsistencies.  And there seems to be in this particular past life regression.

Or was it just meant to be a science-fiction story?

Was I taking it literally when it wasn't meant to be?  One of the commenters seemed to think it was a science fiction story.

Don't know if it's science fiction, fiction or what.  I didn't write it, it's supposedly the transcript of a series of hypnotic sessions; I looked on line and got a little more information.  Supposedly the sitter came to a hypnotist for help with obesity; the hypnotist at some part of the session said, 'go back to when you were light' (instead of lighter or less fat) and the sitter went into another lifetime or a time between lives.  I forgot to call the publisher today to get info on how to get a copy of the book, it's 'Event Horizon Press' in Desert Hot Springs, CA.   Funny, it's rare for a book published so recently to be both out of print and not available anywhere on line.  Usually even something really odd shows up either for 1 cent, or a couple hundred bucks depending on demand and rarity.  The book is supposed to be rather small but has a complete transcript of all the hypnotic sessions, not just this one.  Interesting read in any event; if the person who wrote this writes fiction, they really need to get cracking on more books.  Damn good writer.

people shaped robots are not that useful,
ones that are on assembly lines or other hardware like that are much more useful and don't look like people at all
