Who Is The Snake Or Serpent?

#0, by emeline, 19 March 2012 07:13 AM

Good? Bad?  Both?  So much has been written about "the snake" or "the serpent".

I'd love to hear any thoughts/beliefs you have on the topic.

I raised this because as I was typing the previous post in which I mentioned drugs I remembered about this guy a close friend of mine knew very well.  I never actually met him myself.    Long story short, my friend used to dabble with drugs somewhat and she was friends with a circle of people who were very much into experimenting with them in a big way, especially "trying to access other dimensions", tripping and all that kind of thing.  This was when I was in my early twenties.

One day she started telling me about how she was really worried about this guy who was doing a lot of drugs.  She said he told her that when he was "tripping" he encountered some kind of snake.  I don't remember all the details but what I do vividly remember is this guy kept telling my friend that this snake was "consuming him".  She was really worried about him, said he had begun to act very erratically and weirdly and speaking about how he was going to die.    It seems this snake featured hugely in this and he became more and more obsessed with this snake which he said he "couldn't escape" and was "possessing him".

I didn't really know what to make of it - but this guy did die.  Within a few months he was dead, supposedly of a drug overdose.   My friend still says (30 years later) he was "consumed by the snake".

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Or this famous/infamous "snake" or "serpent" (single or plural) mentioned so often throughout history?

There's a fairly lengthy article about it on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpent_(symbolism)

Excerpt:

The serpent (from Greek έρπω erpo) is one of the oldest and most widespread mythological symbols. Snakes have been associated with some of the oldest rituals known to humankind[1] and represent dual expression[2] of good and evil.[3]

Fertility and rebirth
In religion, mythology, and literature, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through moulting, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing.[4] The ouroboros is a symbol of eternity and continual renewal of life.
In the Abrahamic religions, the serpent represents sexual desire.[5] According to the Rabbinical tradition, in the Garden of Eden, the serpent represents sexual passion.[6] In Hinduism, Kundalini is a coiled serpent, the residual power of pure desire.[7]

[edit] Guardianship

This Cambodian statue, dated between 1150 and 1175 A.D., depicts the meditating Buddha being shielded by the naga Mucalinda.
Serpents are represented as potent guardians of temples and other sacred spaces. This connection may be grounded in the observation that when threatened, some snakes (such as rattlesnakes or cobras) frequently hold and defend their ground, first resorting to threatening display and then fighting, rather than retreat. Thus, they are natural guardians of treasures or sacred sites which cannot easily be moved out of harm's way.

In Hinduism, the serpent isn't particularly a bad thing.  The whole spinal thing being a snake, in most people coiled and asleep, waiting to be awakened and enlightened.  Or something like that.

"Be wise as a serpent, harmless as a dove."

As far as the guy being consumed by the snake, I often wonder how much of the stuff people think of as "enlightenment" when they are on drugs, is just projection?

I mean, I've known quite a number of people who have used a lot of hallucinogens and they talk of the mind expansion and enlightenment, and yet, in real life, they are still the pedestrian humans they were before drugs expanded their minds.  And it seems the ones who do the most drugs are still the most pedestrian.  ;)

I have no doubt people see lots of things when doing drugs, whether it's "true" or not.....well, that's the real question about everything, isn't it?

very interesting emeline.

i think mtl is right most "trips" don't break through and folk get wrap up in the pretty geometric colors and shapes... i would guess... and these types of trips are projection, but not all...or there would be more of people like me and the dead friend you mention.

this friend you speak of eme...it is precisely what is happening to me just prior to falling into REM sleep.

i call it dematerializing, but consuming would work too.

it happens very fast ... usually on an appendage (leg/shin/thigh), but not exclusively on the legs. two weeks ago it was my top half of my head. yes - the head was being transmuted into another dimension.

i really could use a shaman

hey emeline - i am looking for the initial thread i started related to these experiences - could you send me the link to that thread - thanks :)

rocc if you're looking for a shaman it might pay to talk to Mule.   He was on HA and I know he left for a while but I suspect he may be back there under the name Drumwinds (you could message him and ask anyway).   He's a really good and genuine guy and I think he could really help you a lot - I think he calls himself "a walker between the worlds" but basically he's a shaman and he knows a lot about this whole field.

Meanwhile I'll see if I can find that other thread and put the link here.

rocc, maybe have a look at this site?

'Dark Force' and Entity Troubles -
The Real Way to Clear Them

I present here a strategy and wide-ranging set of means for managing and mastering your situation with, and even clearing or removing, 'entities' and 'dark force' interferences and dissolving psychic attacks.
If you had always been wanting to get rid of an 'entity' or indeed a whole lot of 'entities' and related manifestations that have been troubling you, and none of the established methods worked for you, now you can read both why those methods could not work and what you can actually do yourself to turn your situation and indeed your whole life around, and to progressively get rid of those manifestations yourself.

While various types of 'spirit attachments' and parasitic 'lost' souls can apparently be removed, usually after a fair bit of prior clearance work, actual removal of 'astral entities' (the term here including what are known as astral beings, dark entities, archons, demons and demonic beings, and indeed just 'voices'), which are actually illusions created in people's minds by the 'dark force', cannot be done in the way that most people believe to be possible, but at least the methods given here enable you to progressively weaken their interferences upon you and gradually 'fade them out' of your life experience.
The strategy outlined here, if used with thought and awareness, can potentially resolve ANY personal issue relating to troublesome psychic and 'illusional' and 'delusional' phenomena, including elementals and particular types of psychic attack or black magic involving them, because the underlying problem comes down to the same thing - interference from the 'dark force', and the need to get more grounded and to dissolve thought forms, emotional 'button-pushing' and illusory realities.
